A Walk

As I walk through our village
I once again hear the train announcing itself
It sings many different songs
And has become a familiar sound
The shopkeepers attend their stores
As passersby wander in
To see their offerings
People meet with coffee in hand
Chatting about the latest news
I come upon a brook
Which speaks unusually loud
As it quickly winds around its rocks
It tells a storm story
The hydrangeas are beaten down
But no doubt will rise again
A tree swing sits idly by waiting
To be graced by children’s laughter
Beautiful wild flowers
Dot peoples lawns
I wish I knew their names
And let me not forget about the dog
Barking in the background
I’m sure he or she is saying
Good day to me
It is with gratitude I end my walk

Why does this image go with this poem?

Pawling is not only my adopted home but the Village center also houses LAND Gallery and my Studio. I felt that this image of fireworks at Lakeside Park in the Village paired well with Nancy's words, their own love letter to the Village. This was taken during the Fireman's Carnival and the location was chosen to show off the landscape in which the Village is located
